International Hearing Aid Seminar (IHAS)

New at the IHCON 2022 meeting will be the International Hearing Aid Seminar (IHAS). This will be held immediately prior to the IHCON 2022 meeting. Just as IHCON was modeled after the Gordan Research Conferences, IHAS will be modeled after the Gordon Research Seminars. The main goal of IHAS is to foster research by junior investigators, including advanced graduate students, postdocs, and junior scientists in industry and academia. The mission of IHAS is fourfold:

  1. To provide an atmosphere among peers to freely exchange ideas
  2. To provide a platform with more opportunities to orally present current research
  3. To provide early mentorship from senior scientists in industry and academia
  4. To provide funding opportunities in support of junior-investigator contributions to IHCON

Applying for IHAS: To apply for IHAS, simply select the "IHCON + IHAS" option when submitting your abstract at ihcon.societyconference.com.

Leadership Structure of IHAS: In the spirit of the IHAS mission, the organization will be led by junior investigators. For 2022, Erol Ozmeral (University of South Florida) and Eric Hoover (University of Maryland) will form the IHAS leadership, while Steering Committee member Peggy Nelson will serve as a Senior Advisor.

Scheduling: IHAS attendees should travel to the conference on Monday, August 8th. There will  be reception on Monday 5:30-6:30 pm, followed by dinner 6:30-8:00 pm.

The IHAS program will begin on Tuesday and end on Wednesday afternoon after lunch. The approximate schedule, shown in the table below, includes four oral sessions and two poster sessions. To view the latest schedule, please login at ihcon.societyconference.com. Attendees that are presenting would be expected to present at both IHAS and IHCON later in the week; however, an oral presentation at IHAS is no guarantee that an oral presentation will be given at IHCON. Rather, most IHAS attendees will be given the opportunity to present their oral presentation at IHAS and then a poster at IHCON on the same topic. Each oral presentation will be given a 20-minute time slot, which includes time for questions and to switch to the next presenter. It is therefore suggested that speakers aim to present for around 15 minutes to allow up to 5 minutes for questions and discussion.
